About the event
JATO, Sussex4Palestine and Brighton and Hove Extinction Rebellion welcome Green Olive Tours for a fascinating virtual tour of the South Hebron Hills exploring the geopolitics and lived realities of communities living in Area C of the West Bank. Sukkot is an agricultural harvest holiday commemorating the Exodus from Egypt and the temporary dwellings of the Israelites in the desert. Today Palestinians in Area C are made to permanently dwell in temporary structures that can be demolished by the military at any time, and are often violently prevented from harvesting their olive groves by settlers and soldiers. We will discuss the environmental themes of the holiday and how they intersect with issues of environmental racism, food sovereignty, ecological destruction, water management, agricultural sustainability, and human rights in the occupied West Bank.
After the tour there will be an opportunity for questions and to hear a few short words from Sussex4Palestine and XR…
